A few days after the shambles of Monday's visit of Baroness Warsi, Bury Park is as peaceful as ever!
I came over to see if there was any action after Friday prayers, but all is very quiet. It seems the al-Muhajiroun crew that have caused us all, and especially the Muslim community, so much problem this year have withdrawn for a few days. They were here Tuesday - doubtless so they could capitalise on the photo ops and interviews from all those who missed out on Monday, but it's a bit cold for continual presence on a street corner. (I should know. I am sitting in a bench in Bury Park writing this.)
So what is there to write about? Nothing. The "sweetly named boutique Memsaab" is trading as ever. The halal meat shops are busy. (I reference the Daily Mail here. See post of two days ago.) The restaurants are busy after prayers turned out. The veg stalls are busy. The occasional burqaed woman walks by but she is nothing to fear. All in all there is normal street life.
So why am I writing? Precisely because nothing is happening!!!
As they say, no news is good news. And quite honestly that is the story most of the time.
