I have watched many news clips over thre past two days but this one from al Jazeera broke my heart more than the rest.
And Time Magazine here captures some of the pain: China Races to Save Quake Victims. It concludes:
"The aid work is focused on saving lives. But for some it will come too late. The woman outside the hospital said that she heard her father, who is buried in the ruble, respond when she called out his name yesterday. This morning when she called to him again, he said he didn't think he could hold out much longer.
Despite the pain, the desire to blame is already rising. It comes from within the nation, and also from outside. Time's blog post 20,000 and counting... says it well:
One of the things that the world is being reminded of in this disaster—and the United States, in particular, needs to be reminded of this-- is that China is still a very poor country, albeit one getting less poor year by year.
We should hold our counsel just now. if anyone is going to make a noise let the Chinese themselves ask the questions. At such times to ask questions, whether of God of lesser authorities, can be a release. Time points to a Guardian article Searching the rubble of a Chinese school, parents' grief turns to fury which tells of just that.
