II just found this link to BBC news of the 1976 Tangshan earthquake.

32 years. How much has changed. It was 28th July 1976. Mao Zedong was still alive (he died a few weeks later on September 9th). The most striking thing for me is the quote from the Red Flag Journal:
Any grave natural disaster can be overcome with the guidance of Chairman Mao.
We can all to easily forget how much has changed.
