It may be a small thing but it does speak volumes. The family favourite game for so many, Monopoly, is launching a new Here & Now World Edition and is inviting everyone around the world to vote for the greatest cities around the globe. The 22 cities with the highest worldwide votes will make it onto one global Monopoly board.
It does say world edition. But take a look at the list of top ranking cities. Its a very skewed world. Where is Asia? China? Africa except Cape Town?
Its does appear that Jerusalem is up there in part because of the lobbying by OneJerusalem who are commited to "Maintaining a united Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel." Jeruslaem is a great city, and personally I would love to see it listed there. But its Arabs are as important a part as its Jews. And life is not as simple as to determine the fate of many Palestinians or Israeli Jews by the voting for a Monopoly board.
But, why is this important? Think for a minute, how many kid's image of the world map and thus a strong reality for them is influenced by a game? The majority certainly spend more time playing games than looking at an atlas. (OK, I know there is no map on the Monopoly Board on past experience, but ...)
So register, take a vote, and return to vote again!
